Jairus was at his wit’s end, as was the woman with hemorrhage, when he came to Jesus. Is being at the end of our capabilities, plans, knowledge the usual way we come to Jesus for healing, to God for anything? Trust in God and in Jesus before we go down a path of struggle and hardship. I am reminded of the Philippian’s 4 passage “Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpassess all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Jairus did not have the NT; he went to the source and basically after he prayerfully asks, Jesus tells him to just believe. Jesus then goes with him. Peter, James and John and the girl’s parents are in the room when he takes her hand and says “Talitha koum”. And she gets up! They feed her. I believe Lord, help Thou my unbelief!
This account also reminded me that I need to go to the REAL source of power first in all things, instead of relying on worldly resources.
You remind me that Jesus did not heal in private; that when Jesus healed, he wanted people to see what he was doing. These days, we don’t want the person being healed to feel uncomfortable, or be embarrassed, when that isn’t the point at all.
Jairus was at his wits end; he had nothing to lose in asking Jesus. Maybe that is when we finally get to that point, we have finally gotten out of the way so God can really work.
